Can you use bedding on both sides

Short answer: It depends what you mean. A duvet cover has a right side and a wrong side, and the right side should face out. Many covers are reversible with two different sides, though, and a sheet can often be turned so the wear is spread out.

Right side and wrong side on bedding

An ordinary duvet cover is sewn like a bag, with the seams on the inside. The right side faces out, and that is the side you lie on and see. If you turn the cover inside out, the seams and any loose threads lie against your skin, which feels less smooth. On the other hand, it can be practical to turn the cover inside out when washing it, as that protects colours and prints.

Reversible bedding

Some duvet covers are made with two different sides, for example a plain side and a patterned side, or two different colours. That is a reversible cover, and you can happily use both sides in turn. It adds variety and spreads the wear. Check whether your bamboo bedding has two usable sides or a clear right side before you turn it.

Sheets and wear

A sheet wears most where you lie, especially at the shoulders and hips. Many people turn or rotate the sheet so it wears more evenly. A fitted sheet can be rotated so the head end goes to the foot end. That gives the sheet a longer life. You can do the same with the mattress if the maker recommends it, so it does not develop dips in the same place.

Pillowcases

Pillowcases, like duvet covers, have a right side and a wrong side. The pillow itself, however, can be turned inside the case so you lie on one side and then the other. That spreads the pressure on the filling. If you sleep with damp hair or sweat at night, it is a good idea to change pillowcases more often than the rest of your bedding, as they are closest to your face.

Nightwear and bedding

Bedding stays fresher and lasts longer when you sleep in clean nightwear. Smooth, soft nightwear creates less friction against the sheet than rough fabrics. Many people choose a thin nightdress or a light bamboo slip for warm nights and a soft top, such as one of the bamboo tops for women, when it is colder. Wash nightwear and bedding regularly so the bed feels fresh.

Washing and care

Wash bedding at the temperature on the label, often 40 or 60 degrees depending on the material. Bamboo viscose is usually washed at 30 to 40 degrees. Turn the cover inside out, close any buttons or zips and do not overfill the machine, so the bedding is properly rinsed. Let it air dry or follow the label's tumble dryer guidance, and fold it once it is completely dry.
