WHAT DOES OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 MEAN?

If a product carries the STANDARD 100 label, you can be sure that all components of this item have been tested for harmful substances. This means that everything from fabric, threads, buttons, zippers and other accessories are tested. Therefore, the products are harmless to human health.

The tests are carried out by independent OEKO-TEX® institutes (such as the Danish Technological Institute) based on the comprehensive OEKO-TEX® criteria catalogue. The test takes into account all legally regulated and non-regulated substances that may be harmful to human health. In many cases, the limit values for STANDARD 100 exceed national and international requirements.

The criteria catalogue is updated at least once a year and expanded based on new scientific expertise and legal requirements. It is not easy for consumers to keep an overview of the legal requirements for harmful substances every day – the OEKO-TEX® institutes do it for you.

WHICH ITEMS CAN BE CERTIFIED?

In principle, all textile products, as well as accessories at every processing stage, can be STANDARD 100 certified. From fibers and threads to fabrics and finished goods. The OEKO-TEX® institutes test every single component before the finished article is allowed to bear the STANDARD 100 label.

This includes threads, buttons, ribbons and linings. The prints and coatings used on outer materials are also tested for harmful substances according to the criteria that apply to them. For more information, visit www.okotex.dk
