Bamboo split sheets
A split sheet is sewn for an adjustable bed. That is the type of bed where the head or foot end lifts on a motor, and where an ordinary sheet pulls tight, bunches at the corner or comes loose entirely every time the bed moves. The split in the sheet solves exactly that: the fabric is divided where the bed folds, so the sheet follows the movement instead of working against it.
Our split sheets are 180x200 cm with a 20 cm skirt, and they come in two versions that are not interchangeable.
H60 or U80
The difference is which end the split sits at. H60 has the split at the head end and is used when it is the headboard that lifts. That is the most common adjustable bed, where you raise the upper body to read or to sleep with your head high. U80 has the split at the opposite end and is used when the foot end lifts, usually for the sake of legs and circulation.
If you have a bed that can raise both ends, it is worth checking which end you actually use day to day. That is where the split needs to be. If you are unsure, the type is usually printed on the bed frame or given in the manual.
Why bamboo viscose
An adjustable bed is often used by someone who lies in it for longer stretches, and then the material matters more. Bamboo viscose has thin, round fibres, so the surface is smooth and does not pull at the skin when you move. That reduces friction against the back and the heels, which is where pressure builds when you lie down a lot.
At the same time the fabric moves moisture. The fibres take it up faster than cotton and release it back into the air, so the bed does not turn clammy and the temperature stays even all night. The fabric feels cool as you lie down and does not heat up the way a dense cotton sheet does.
How to put it on
Run the bed all the way flat before you make it. Put the sheet on like an ordinary envelope sheet, with the closed ends folded over the head and foot, and make sure the split sits where the bed folds. Tuck the sides under the mattress last. When you raise the bed again, the sheet should follow without pulling anywhere. If it does not, the split is the wrong way round.
A good sign that the sheet is on correctly: you can raise and lower the bed a couple of times without having to straighten anything afterwards.
Washing and care
Wash at 40 degrees without fabric softener. Softener settles as a film around the fibres and takes both the smoothness and the moisture transport. Take the sheet out of the machine straight away and shake it out, and you skip the ironing. Tumble drying on low heat is fine, but the sheet dries quickly on its own.
Who makes them
The split sheets are from Nordic Weaving, which traces its history back to Nordisk Tekstil Væveri in 1874. The fabric is certified to OEKO TEX Standard 100 in product class I. That is the strictest class in the standard, the one that applies to textiles for infants, and it says something about what is not left in the fabric after production and dyeing.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use an ordinary fitted sheet on an adjustable bed? On a bed that only lifts a little and rarely, it can work. If the bed is used raised every night, an ordinary sheet will pull at the corners and work loose over time.
How do I know whether I need H60 or U80? Look at which end of the bed lifts. If the head lifts, you need H60. If the feet lift, you need U80.
Does a split sheet work on a bed without adjustment? Yes, it lies flat like an ordinary sheet. The split simply makes no difference.
