Nordic Weaving: Danish textile heritage since 1874
Nordic Weaving is a Danish textile and lifestyle brand that traces its history back to Nordisk Tekstil Væveri in 1874. The name Nordic Weaving is a modern continuation of that heritage, and the company still operates in Denmark under its original legal name. That is rare in an industry where most brands are younger than the beds they make textiles for.
The philosophy is easy to recognise once you have the products in your hands: natural materials, timeless design and care in every thread. Nordic Weaving works with cashmere, silk, Egyptian cotton, linen and bamboo, selecting each quality on its own terms rather than running everything through the same factory. It is the bamboo part of their range that we have brought in.
Why bamboo belongs in the bathroom
Bamboo viscose has properties that suit a towel better than almost anything else. The fibres are fine and round, so the surface feels smooth and silky against the skin rather than coarse. At the same time they absorb strongly: a bamboo towel takes up more water than a cotton towel of the same weight, and releases it again faster, because the material moves moisture away instead of holding on to it.
That last part is the practical difference most people notice. A towel that dries quickly has time to dry out between two showers, and it is precisely that damp, half dry state that makes towels smell. Bamboo solves the problem by drying, not by smelling of something else.
Nordic Weaving in our range
We carry Nordic Weaving bamboo towels in three colours: grey, sand and olive. All three are calm, earthy shades chosen so they can share a bathroom without clashing, and so they will not look dated in two years. Grey is the neutral choice, sand the warm one, and olive the one that gives the room a little character.
Each colour comes in two sizes. The small one at 50 x 90 cm is the towel by the basin and the one that goes in the gym bag. The large one at 70 x 140 cm is the bath towel that wraps all the way around an adult. Because the colours are the same in both sizes, you can build a full set in one colour or mix all three, depending on how uniform you want it to look.
The towels have a soft, densely woven surface and a firmer base that stands up to being washed again and again, plus a simple border along the edge. They are made in Bangladesh.
How to make them last
Bamboo towels need slightly different treatment from cotton if they are to stay soft. Wash them at 40 degrees and skip the fabric softener. Softener settles as a film on the fibres and closes off the very absorbency you bought the towel for. If you want them extra soft, take them out of the tumble dryer while still slightly damp and hang them to finish. The first wash sets the fibres, and absorbency improves rather than declines.
