How to measure yourself properly
Short answer: Measure over thin clothing, keep the tape level and do not pull it tight. Four measurements cover almost everything: chest, waist, hip and inside leg.
How to hold the tape
The tape should lie level all the way round and touch the body without pressing. Pull it tight and you get a measurement two centimetres too small, and everything you order will be tight.
The four measurements
Chest is measured over the fullest point, waist at the narrowest place usually just above the navel, hip at the widest point around the seat, and inside leg from the crotch to the floor without shoes.
Measure at the right time
Measure in the morning, when the body is least affected by food and fluid. Measure over underwear or a thin layer. Get help with back measurements, which are hard to take alone. See bamboo clothing for women.
Compare with a garment that fits
Lay a garment flat on the table and measure the chest from seam to seam, then double it. Compare with the size chart and you see immediately whether a new garment will fit. See bamboo clothing for men and bamboo underwear for women.
Frequently asked questions
How often should I measure
Once a year and after a weight change. The body changes more than most people expect.
Should I measure with or without shoes
Without shoes for leg length, and ideally without clothes for body measurements.
What if my measurements fall in two sizes
Choose by the larger measurement. Taking in is easier than letting out.
