A pair of men's pyjamas has to stay put through the night. They must not pull at the waist, they must not cling when you get warm, and they should feel soft against the skin after many washes. Bamboo viscose solves exactly those three things, because the material moves moisture away from the body and evens out the temperature. We carry 20 pieces of nightwear for men from JBS of Denmark, JBS, Bamboo Basics, Resteröds and Lindbergh in sizes XS to XXXL, with prices from €32.95.
The full set or the single piece
A classic pyjama set for men consists of a buttoned shirt or a sleep top and a pair of long bottoms. If you sleep warm, night shorts and a T-shirt are enough, and if you sleep cold, the long set gives the most. Most people wear the pieces separately, which is why we also sell pyjama bottoms for men and night T-shirts for men on their own. If the nightwear should also work on the sofa in the evening, the looser models sit under bamboo loungewear for men.
Why you sweat less
The body gives off moisture all night, even when you do not feel that you are sweating. In cotton the moisture stays in the fabric, and it is the wet cotton against the skin that feels cold around two in the morning. Bamboo viscose absorbs the moisture faster and releases it to the air, so the nightwear stays dry. It is the same mechanism that makes many people report fewer awakenings when they switch both nightwear and bedding to bamboo.
Sizes and fit
The nightwear comes in XS to XXXL, but not every model in every size. Nightwear should sit looser than daytime clothing, so if you are between two sizes, the larger one gives the better result. Look for a soft waistband rather than tight elastic if you sleep on your stomach or turn over often. Every product page has the brand's own size guide with measurements in centimetres.
Night shirt, dressing gown and the rest of the evening
If you would rather have a night shirt than a set, the long models come from JBS of Denmark. If you need something over the nightwear in the morning, we have bamboo dressing gowns for men in the same material. At Christmas there are striped and patterned sets that many people buy in pairs, and they sit under bamboo pyjamas for men.
Washing and durability
Wash at 40 degrees inside out, use a mild detergent and skip fabric softener, which coats the fibres and makes the fabric less breathable. Avoid the tumble dryer. It is the most common reason pyjama bottoms get shorter and tops get tighter, and the damage cannot be undone. Line drying takes a few hours because the material releases water quickly.
Bedding is the other half
Nightwear and bedding work towards the same goal: keeping you dry. If you sleep in synthetic bedding, you only notice half the difference, however good the nightwear is. We carry bamboo bedding in 140 x 200, 140 x 220 and 200 x 220 cm in the same material, and that is the simplest way to make the whole bed consistent.
The brands on this page
JBS of Denmark accounts for most of the range with the classic Danish pyjama sets, night shirts and big shirts. JBS covers the plain end with night T-shirts and pyjama bottoms, Bamboo Basics the fitted models, while Resteröds and Lindbergh each contribute their own cut. Prices range from €32.95 for a single piece to €106.95 for the most expensive sets. Once you have found a cut that works, it is easier to buy the same again in a new colour than to switch brands, because it is the fit and not the material that usually decides whether a set ends up at the back of the cupboard.
How to stay warm without sweating
The classic winter problem is being too cold at bedtime and too warm at three in the morning. The solution is not thicker nightwear, but a material that moves the moisture, combined with a duvet that matches the temperature of the room. A long-sleeved set in bamboo viscose holds the warmth while still letting the moisture escape, and that is why it works better than a thick sweatshirt, which closes in both directions.
Frequently asked questions
Are bamboo pyjamas too warm in summer? No. The material is breathable, and night shorts with a short sleeve are among the coolest things you can sleep in.
Can the set handle a weekly machine wash? Yes. At 40 degrees and without a tumble dryer, both colour and fit hold.
