Bamboo T-shirt vs. Cotton T-shirt – Test and Differences

Bamboo T-shirts are clearly the winners when it comes to softness. Bamboo viscose feels silky soft against the skin—significantly softer than both conventional and organic cotton. When it comes to moisture-wicking and temperature regulation, bamboo is the clear winner. Bamboo viscose wicks away moisture 2–3 times faster than cotton, which means sweat is effectively drawn away from the skin instead of being trapped in the fabric. On hot days, bamboo keeps you cool; on cold days, it keeps you warm. Cotton is more static—it absorbs moisture and becomes heavy and damp, which feels clammy against the skin.

Shelf Life and Price

In terms of durability, it’s a close call—both materials last a long time if you wash them properly. Bamboo has a slight advantage because the material doesn’t develop that “musty” odor that cotton can sometimes acquire. In terms of price, cotton usually wins: cotton T-shirts are cheaper per piece. But if you look at cost per wear, bamboo often comes out on top because the T-shirt retains its softness and shape for several years.
