How to wash without the colours running

Short answer: New coloured clothing releases loose colour for the first five washes. Wash new darks separately, and keep whites apart until the water runs clear.

Excess dye is rinsed out

Dye that has not bonded to the fibre goes out with the water the first few times. That is normal. See washing and care.

Wash new darks separately

The first five washes are the critical ones. After that the piece can be washed with the rest. See bamboo underwear for men.

Cold water releases less

At a lower temperature less dye comes loose. Wash new darks at 30 degrees the first few times.

Whites always separately

Even old coloured clothing releases a little. Whites are washed separately every time. See bamboo towels.

If it has happened

Wash the discoloured piece again straight away and do not let it dry. Heat sets the colour. See bamboo bedding.
