What to do about clothing that has shrunk
Short answer: A shrunk piece can be stretched partly back while it is damp. It rarely comes all the way back, but the difference can be enough.
Soak in lukewarm water
Put the piece in lukewarm water with a little hair conditioner for ten minutes. That makes the fibres more yielding. See washing and care.
Stretch while it is damp
Press the water out in a towel, then stretch the piece carefully in the direction it has shrunk. Lay it flat to dry in the stretched shape.
It does not come all the way back
Expect to get most of it but not all. The more it has shrunk, the less can be saved. See bamboo T-shirts for men.
Prevent it in future
Shrinkage comes from heat. 40 degrees and low heat when drying prevent it. See bamboo underwear for men.
Buy one up if you tumble dry
If you are between two sizes and use the tumble dryer, choose the larger. See bamboo T-shirt for women.
