Bamboo bedding and when it should be replaced
Short answer: When the fabric is thin enough to see through, when the seams start coming apart, or when it no longer feels comfortable to lie in after a wash.
Worn thin fabric
Hold the sheet up to the light. If there are pale patches where the hips lie, the fabric is worn thin and will tear soon. See bamboo bedding.
Seams that open
A seam starting to come apart carries on. On a duvet cover it can be sewn, and that holds well.
Stiffness that does not go away
If the fabric has become stiff and no softer after a wash without fabric softener, the fibres have been damaged by heat over time.
Reuse rather than throw away
Worn bedding makes good cloths and covers for storage. It rarely needs to go in the bin. See the rest of the range in home and homewear in bamboo.
Buy a new set before the last one goes
If you have two sets and one is wearing out, top up before the other does too. See washing and care.
Frequently asked questions
How long does a set of bedding last?
Five to ten years in rotation with another set, if it is washed at 40 degrees.
Can bedding be repaired?
A seam can be sewn and holds well. Worn thin fabric cannot be saved.
Why does bedding become stiff?
Often from fabric softener residue or from high heat over a long time.
