How to choose bedding size by the duvet

Short answer: Bedding is chosen by the size of the duvet, not the width of the bed. The most common Danish sizes are 140x200 and 140x220 centimetres, and the length of the duvet decides which one you need.

Measure the duvet

Lay the duvet flat on the floor or bed and measure the width and length. Those two numbers need to match the cover. Do not rely only on the label, as duvets can shrink a little after many washes. A quick measurement takes a minute and gives you a reliable answer.

The common sizes

140x200 is the most widespread single size, while 140x220 is used by those who want the duvet further down over their feet. The longer size is especially nice for tall people or if your toes often get cold. See bamboo bedding 140x200 and 140x220.

Why the bed width is not the measure

Two people in a double bed usually each have their own single duvet. That is why the duvet, not the bed, decides the cover. If you have different duvets, you can also have different covers. Check both duvets before you order, so both sets fit.

If the cover is too big

A cover that is too big makes the duvet bunch at one end and slide around inside. At night you feel it as cold spots, where part of your body suddenly has only fabric over it. Folds also form and press, and the cover looks less neat on the bed.

If the cover is too small

A cover that is too small squeezes the duvet, so it loses loft and insulates less well. Buttons and closures are strained and can open during the night. The corners of the duvet end up folded, and it feels heavy to lie under. Choose the right size rather than forcing the duvet in.

Pillowcases

The standard pillow in Denmark is 60x63 centimetres. Check your pillow if you have a different model, such as a long pillow or a shaped pillow. A pillowcase that is too big slides around and gathers under your head. One that is too small presses the pillow flat, so it supports less.

See the range

All sets are collected in bamboo bedding, where you can see sizes and colours side by side. There you can also see which sets come in both lengths. Measure the duvet first, then choose colour and model, and you can be sure the set fits.

Washing

Bedding is washed at 40 degrees without fabric softener, which leaves a film on the fibres. Close the cover before it goes into the machine so it does not fill up with other laundry. Air dry it or tumble dry on low heat. See how to wash bamboo bedding.

Two sets make everyday life easier

With two sets you can change and wash without waiting for one to dry. If you sleep warm and change more often, a third set makes sense. When all sets are the same size, you simply take the next one from the cupboard and know it fits.

When you change duvet

If you buy a new duvet, check its size before ordering new bedding. Many people switch from 140x200 to 140x220 with a new duvet, and then the old covers no longer fit. Checking first saves you from ending up with bedding that does not fit.

Frequently asked questions

Should I choose by the bed or the duvet?

By the duvet. The width of the bed says nothing about the cover, because two people in a double bed usually each have their own single duvet.

What is the difference between 140x200 and 140x220?

The length. 140x220 is 20 centimetres longer and covers the feet better, which is especially nice for tall people or anyone who gets cold toes at night.

What size is a standard pillow?

The standard pillow in Denmark is 60x63 centimetres. If you have another model, measure the pillow before choosing a pillowcase, so it neither slides around nor presses the pillow flat.
