How to measure for bedding and avoid getting it wrong

Short answer: Measure the duvet and not the bed. A duvet of 140 by 200 needs a cover in the same size, whatever the width of the bed.

The duvet decides the cover

The width of the bed says nothing about the size of the duvet. Two people in a wide bed can each have a narrow duvet. Measure the duvet flat from edge to edge. See bamboo bedding.

A cover that is too large gets cold

A cover larger than the duvet gives air pockets in the corners, and they get cold. That is a common mistake.

A cover that is too small pulls

A cover that is too small presses the duvet filling together in the middle and makes it less warm precisely where you lie.

The sheet is measured to the mattress

Shrinkage counts too
