How to store bedding so it stays fresh

Short answer: Completely dry, airy and not in plastic. Bedding put away slightly damp smells after a couple of weeks, and plastic makes it worse.

Completely dry

A single slightly damp corner makes the whole stack musty. Make sure everything is dried through before it is put away. See washing and care.

Not in plastic

Airtight bags hold moisture. A shelf or a fabric bag is better. See bamboo bedding.

Keep the sets together

Put the sheet, duvet cover and pillowcase together in one bundle, ideally inside one of the pillowcases. Then you do not have to search.

Rotate

Always use the bottom set first, then all the sets wear evenly. Otherwise you end up with one worn set and two that still look new. See home and homewear in bamboo.

Air before use

A set that has been stored a long time can be aired for an hour before it is used. See bamboo towels.
