How to mend a small hole in bamboo clothing
Short answer: A small hole is easiest to close with a few stitches from the wrong side while it is still small. If you wait, the stitches run and the repair becomes visible.
Deal with it early
A hole of a few millimetres can be closed invisibly. A hole of a centimetre cannot. Check the clothes when you wash.
Sew from the wrong side
Turn the garment and gather the edges with small stitches in a thread matching the colour. Do not pull tight, or the fabric will pucker.
For socks
Holes in socks appear at the toe and the heel. See how to avoid holes in your socks.
For underwear
If the hole is in a seam, it is usually the thread and not the fabric that has gone. It can be sewn again. See bamboo underpants for men.
When it is not worth it
If the fabric has gone thin all around, a new hole appears right next to it. Then the piece is worn out.
Prevent it
Most holes start where the fabric is stretched. A size that fits lasts longer.
General care
The rest of the rules are in the washing guide.
Frequently asked questions
Can bamboo viscose be mended?
Yes. It is sewn like other jersey, best from the wrong side with small stitches.
When is it not worth it?
When the fabric has gone thin all around.
Why do holes appear in the same place?
Because the fabric is stretched there. A size that fits reduces the wear.
