Washing at 30, 40 or 60 Degrees – What Happens to Your Clothes?

Short answer: Wash temperature is a trade-off between cleaning and wear. At 30 degrees your clothes are treated most gently, 40 degrees is the good everyday balance, and 60 degrees kills the most bacteria but noticeably wears on fibres, elastic and colours. At 30 degrees your clothes keep their colours, fit and elastic best, and power consumption is low. Only use 60 degrees on bamboo if the care label expressly allows it, and then only in case of illness or a particular need. Otherwise 40 degrees and a good drying routine is plenty.
