Why a garment is discontinued

Short answer: Because the fabric cannot be sourced, because sales cannot carry a new order, or because the model has been replaced by a newer one. Often it is a mix of the three, and rarely a single decision.

The fabric disappears first

Yarn and fabric are discontinued at the supplier without anyone asking the shop. The mill can stop a quality, or the yarn behind it may no longer be made. Then the model cannot be made again in the same quality, and a similar garment is not the same garment.

Sales must carry a new order

A new production run requires a minimum quantity, because the factory has to set up machines and materials. If the model sells below that quantity, it cannot be repeated without the shop ending up with stock that sits. So sales are reviewed before a new order is placed.

Newer models take the place

A range has a limit on how much can be shown, stored and explained. When a better model arrives in the same category, the old one goes. It can be a new cut, a better fabric or a more practical detail that makes the new model the obvious choice.

A mix of reasons

There is rarely just one reason. A fabric that gets dearer, a model that sells a little less and a new model that looks similar can together decide the matter. None alone would have been enough, but together they make it unwise to order another round of the old one.

Sizes and colours drop away

A garment seldom vanishes in one go. First some sizes sell out, then a colour, and in the end only a few sizes remain. That is not an error on the page but a sign that stock is being sold through without a new order to refill it.

Why sizes still appear

Even when a model is discontinued, the page can stay for a while. The rest of the stock is sold before the item is removed entirely. That is why you may see a model that is not coming back, and why it is wise to buy while your size is still there.

Does a discontinued garment come back

Rarely in the same form. More often a new model arrives that resembles the old one but differs in fabric, cut or details. It is therefore hard to promise that a specific garment will return, and it is wisest not to count on it.

If your favourite is discontinued

If you have a garment you wear all the time, it is a pity when it disappears. Note the brand name, the size and the care label, so you can quickly find a similar model. Compare measurements and fibre content, since two garments with the same name can fit differently if the fabric has changed.

See what is in the range now

To see what is doing well right now, look at men's bestsellers. If you need a particular brand, read more about Resteröds and JBS of Denmark and compare models, so you know the alternatives if your favourite goes.

Frequently asked questions

Does a discontinued garment come back?

Rarely in the same form. More often a new model arrives that resembles it but differs in fabric, cut or details, so the fit may turn out slightly different.

Why are sizes still shown on the page?

Because the rest of the stock is sold before the item is removed entirely. While sizes remain you can buy the model, but it will not be refilled once they are gone.

Can you order a discontinued garment?

No. When the stock is empty, the item no longer exists with us. If the fabric is discontinued at the supplier, the model cannot be made again in the same quality either.
